Your Presence is Requested

I have spent weeks pouring through wedding magazines and websites looking at invitations. I just keep thinking, "I could make that for half that price. In fact, I could make something better." I mean, are you kidding me with some of these prices? Hands down my favorite was the Vera Wang set of 20 for $450 dollars. I don't care how much money you have, that's just plain stupid. The more and more I looked, the more I became convinced that I really could design my own invitations at half the costs. I priced out all of the pieces, and set about working out the deisgn.

This morning, I found a design that clicked. It is far from perfect, as I used a hole punch when I couldn't find my exacto knife. Always good when you loose an exacto knife in house with two kids.... But, you get the idea. It's made with two pieces of cardstock, the white inserted into the black. I want to use a metallic black cardstock, instead of a flat black. Or perhaps, I will cut the "S" out of a metallic cardstock. The words will be printed in black ink, so that only the "S" is in red. There are a few little details to work out, but overall this is the basic idea for the invitations.

Now, how long do you think it will take me to make 150 to 200 of these things?

  1. It's really cute and I'm sure if you take it one step at a time it won't take too long. If I was there I would offer to help, I love doing stuff like that.

  2. I love it! I am a HUGE fan of the hole punch/ribbon. I might be addicted to it.

Invitations are such a waste of money. I amlost fell off my chair when I read $450 for 20. What a ripoff. Don't forget about etsy if you need something, I love me some etsy.

I wish I was closer and I would so help you bust those bad boys out!

  4. That looks really good! I was also shocked at the price of invitations...because you know people will just throw them away! I'm guilty of it. I printed my own. I bought a few boxes of the Brides brand from Michael's with my 40% off coupon and ended up paying $36 for 60 invitations (our wedding was small) and all I had to do with download their template and come up with my own wording and print! I love DIY things! Also, Michael's has a lot of really cute/nice things made by the Bride people...and there's always a coupon in the Sunday paper for 40%!

  5. Aimee' I did the same thing for my invites. Michael's had a pretty plain one that I dressed up myself for $3 in ribbon.

  6. You do know how I picked my bridesmaids, right? Yep, totally by their invitation making skills. That and flower arranging.

  7. Flower arranging was something I had to leave up to one of my bridesmaids and her mom! I picked out all of the flowers but had to have help arranging them! It's harder than it looks but they came out beautiful...I got those at Hobby Lobby when they were doing their 50% floral stems...;) I love a good deal!

  8. My invitations were similar-ish. I purchased them from Davids Bridal and was happy with them. That's probably the only thing I WAS happy with from that place. You may want to check them out, maybe not.
